Coronation Day celebration at Glamis Castle

As the world watches Westminster Abbey in London for HM King Charles III’s coronation, a local castle with a strong Royal connection will host an alternative day of celebration to mark the moment in history.

Glamis Castle is inviting visitors to “make a day of memories” with a host of activities for all ages to enjoy as a family as part of the holiday long weekend.

Taking place from 10am-4pm on Corondation Day itself (May 6), visitors will be invited to delve into Scottish history during one-hour tours of the Castle’s famous gardens. Led by one of the team’s experienced gardeners, the tours will be running throughout the day where visitors can enjoy exploring the Italian Garden, Macbeth Trail and Walled Garden areas.

There will be family-friendly activities including a crown-themed treasure trail in the grounds and gardens, and Art Attack Angus will provide art and craft kits for children. There will also be a professional face painter and glitter tattoo artist.

In the grounds, visitors will be taken on a journey to a bygone era with live music from the Vintage Girls, one of Scotland’s top vocal harmony trios. Also adding to the regal nature of the day, a selection of stunning vintage vehicles will be on display in front of the castle.

For those looking for a special Coronation Day lunch, the castle is also offering a special picnic menu where visitors can pre-order a picnic hampers to pick up from the Castle Kitchen Restaurant and enjoy anywhere they like in the grounds.

As the childhood home of the King’s grandmother, HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and the birthplace of his aunt, Princess Margaret, Glamis has a close connection to the new monarch, and organisers are looking forward to being able to offer a family-friendly day out over the holiday weekend.
