Angus South MSP Graeme Dey visited Angus Citizen’s Advice Bureau ahead of Talk Money Week, which is running this week.

Mr Dey visited the CAB to highlight the support on offer locally for anyone dealing with money worries – and to promote open conversations on money matters.

Angus CAB is a local, independent charity which provides free, impartial and confidential advice and information on a range of issues including debt and money. Its 2020/21 Annual Report shows over £1.9million in financial gains to people supported across Angus during the last financial year. During the week, people are encouraged to open up about financial matters to improve well-being, mental and physical as well as financial. It aims to break down the taboo around discussing money and money-related concerns.

Mr Dey said: “It was very encouraging to hear about all the fantastic work they are doing in providing support locally on financial matters, and to discuss ways in which we can seek to reduce stigma around the subject of money worries. Talking openly about money can have a major positive impact on tackling related struggles, and really is important for our overall health and relationships.”

“In light of how the pandemic has affected many in Angus and across Scotland, it is more critical now than ever to start these open conversations about money – and Talk Money Week provides a key opportunity to break that taboo.”

Chief Officer at Angus Citizen’s Advice Bureau, Laura Stewart, said:

“Talk Money week is an important time to remind people that we are here to help. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers are here to support people with their money worries, and we offer a confidential and non-judgemental service to the people of Angus.

“Ensuring people are getting all the benefits they are entitled to, working to maximise their income and providing support and advice to those worried about their debts are just some of the many ways in which we can help. Your enquiry will be given to the most appropriate member of our team, who will take further information and then provide you with the options available – allowing you to make an informed decision on what to do next.

“We were delighted to welcome Graeme back to the Arbroath office to talk about our money-related advice work, and we hope that Talk Money Week will encourage anyone who has money concerns to get in touch with us.”
