Support for sport grants

In collaboration with the Scottish Football Association, 23 projects received a portion of £2 million.

Forfar Community Football Trust has received £126,000 to convert their floodlights to LED, Arbroath FC saw £5000 go towards solar panels, and Dundee East Community Sports Club has received £58,000 to install both floodlights and solar panels.

A key priority for the Government is to improve access to community sports facilities across the UK, to help as many people as possible to get involved in sport and to deliver the health benefits associated with active lifestyles.

Local MSP Tess White has backed the fund’s aims.

Ms White, who is the Scottish Conservative shadow minister for public health, said: “This is important funding that will future-proof successful community clubs for years to come. Grassroots sport is important for physical and mental health, and the Angus clubs have already got great outreach programmes which benefit locals of all ages. This investment will expand the range of activities, widen access, and help the environment.”

This investment is part of the Government’s continuing £300 million investment in grassroots multi-sport pitches across the UK by 2025. More than £20m will be invested in similar activities in Scotland over the next 10 years, and applications are accepted via the Scottish FA pitch and facilities fund.
