Within the lovely setting of Edzell, the family run The Tuck Inn was a perfect place to visit to treat ourselves after a long day of gardening.
Located on Edzell’s High Street, The Tuck Inn, provides delicious home-cooked food that does not fail to impress.
Being a lover of the traditional fish and chips I chose the deep fried haddock with salad and I was certainly not disappointed.
Sometimes you can get batter that is crispy but the fish within is dry, or the batter is soggy. This, however, was the excellent combination of crispy batter and moist fish - perfect.
Then there were the chips. They were absolutely flawless.
Golden, crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Utterly divine.
Having made his choice my husband thought he was ready to order; that was until he read the specials menu and suddenly the choice became that much harder.
Thankfully the waitress was on hand to help him out - suggesting he ordered the Bel’s burger (from Edzell’s Bel’s butcher) topped with chilli and cheese.
After just a mouthful of the burger it was obvious that the suggestion was well received. There were even claims that this was the best burger he had ever had - high praise indeed from someone who enjoys his burgers.
The burger was served with the wonderfully cooked chips .
The restaurant itself was extremely busy. In fact I don’t think there was a table free when we were there so booking a table in advance is highly recommended.
Despite being so busy the staff were friendly and you did not feel rushed.
The portion sizes were more than enough but we made room for pudding.
Richard opted for sticky toffee pudding, and judging by the speed at which it was devoured, the only things that can be said was that it again tasted amazing. Although full from my main course I felt it would be rude not to join Richard and have pudding and so opted for a couple of scoops of Rizza’s of Huntly flavoured ice cream. A perfect end to a perfect meal.
I know we will be back - I saw some delicious looking main courses being served to other tables that I definitely want to try out. Oh, and of course there is a selection of home baking that needs sampled.
