THE brilliant “Mary Queen of Scots Got Her Head Chopped Off” is enthralling audiences at Dundee Rep Theatre for the next two weeks in a collaboration with the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh and the Rep Ensemble.
Director Tony Cownie has produced a powerful piece of theatre which does justice to Liz Lochhead’s brilliant take on the relationship between Mary Stuart who returns to rule Scotland on the death of her husband, Dauphin of France, and her cousin Elizabeth Tudor who ensures there can only ever be one ruler, and one queen.
The three leading ladies - Shauna Macdonald as Mary, Emily Winter as Elizabeth and Ann Louise Ross as the narrator Corbie are outstanding, not once losing the pace and energy to carry off their demanding roles.
Neil Murray has triumphed too with his choice of set, props and costumes, giving the audience a feast of visuals which complement the complexities of this production. The show runs until November 5. Ticket details from the box office on 01382 223530 or www.dundeerep.co.uk
