There is always magic at Dundee Rep over the Christmas season and this year will be no exception, when Roald Dahl’s ‘James and the Giant Peach’ is performed by Dundee Rep Ensemble.
Adapted for the stage by David Wood and directed by Jemima Levick this captivating classic tale of good versus evil will delight children of all ages.
The much-loved children’s tale tells the story of James Henry Trotter, who lives with his two horrid aunts and longs for adventure.
One day, after he saves the life of a spider, some magic crocodile tongues come into his possession and it’s not long until a ginormous peach starts to grow in his garden.
Venturing inside the giant peach, James meets the spider that he rescued, and a number of new friends including an Old Green Grasshopper, Centipede, Ladybird and Earthworm.
James, played by Dundee Rep Ensemble graduate Thomas Cotran, and his new friends set off in the giant peach for a giant adventure and a new life far, far away.
James escapes from his nasty Aunt Sponge, played by visiting actor David Delve, and the equally nasty Aunt Spiker, played by Dundee Rep Ensemble member Ann Louise Ross.
Director Jemima Levick has worked again with designer Jean Chan, who worked on last year’s production of ‘The BFG’, and composer Jon Beales, who worked on ‘In My Father’s Words’ at The Rep earlier this year, on this magical adventure.
James Henry Trotter’s amazing and fantastic journey will take children of all ages to a place where “marvellous things” can really happen.
