Ultimate jazz event at five Broughty Ferry venues

A host of exciting acts has been confirmed for Dundee’s ultimate Sunday jazz party which takes place this weekend.

From 2 to 5 p.m. Broughty Ferry will host an afternoon of jazz, swing, bop, vocals and blues across five distinctive venues.

Now in its second year the programme boasts a stellar line-up of local and international acts, poised to deliver a relaxed afternoon of festivities. To top it off – admission is just £6.

The programme features a celebration of the saxophone marking the 200th birthday of Adolphe Sax – the inventor of the saxophone. Top Scottish saxophonists John Burgess, Martin Kershaw, Gordon McNeil and Konrad Wiszniewski pay homage to the great saxophone players including Ben Webster, Johnny Hodges, Charlie Parker, Lester Young and John Coltrane.

Dundee star band Havana Swing also feature presenting their feelgood mix of Django Reinhardt and 30s jazz. Singers Alison Affleck and Cindy Douglas, swing band The Big Easy and blues guitarist Sandy Tweeddale are more major names from the jazz and blues world coming to the Ferry.

Set in the atmospheric bars, cafes and restaurants of Broughty Ferry, Jazz in the Ferry is centred around Bruach, Gulistan House, The Post Office Bar, Papa Jacques and Sol y Sombra all coming together to create an exciting experience for the public.

The acts confirmed to perform are: Havana Swing, The Big Easy, Alison Affleck and Vieux Carre, Martin Kershaw and Graeme Stephen, Sandy Tweeddale, Konrad Wiszniewski and Stephen Coutts, the John Burgess Quartet, Martin Kershaw Quartet, Cindy Douglas and Gordon McNeil.
