MEMBERS of the Rising Youngstars musical youth theatre group are asking local pet owners to polish up their pooches and to take them along to a casting session this Sunday to find the four-legged star of their forthcoming production of Annie.
Rehearsals are well underway for their run of Annie, The Musical – but there is a very important part still to be cast.
The director, Fiona Brand, said: “Annie needs a dog.”
Fiona is a member of the team of volunteers supporting the young cast, who are all under 16. She added: “One of the show’s main characters is Sandy, the runaway dog Annie finds in the street and who soon becomes her best friend.
“Sandy plays a very important part in this fabulous musical so we are looking for a very special dog to join the talented young cast who will be performing ‘Annie’ at Kirriemuir Town Hall from Wednesday, June 12, until Saturday, June 15.”
The dog which plays Sandy does not have to be any particular breed of dog or any breed at all!
Fiona continued: “There are no stipulations regarding Sandy’s breed, colour or size. We are simply looking for a super-cute dog who is good with children, well-behaved and not afraid of loud noises.”
Doggie auditions for the part of Sandy will be held at 4.30 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, outside the Northmuir Hall, Kirriemuir.
Fiona added: “If you think your dog has what it takes to be a star, bring him or her along. Unlike the Rising Youngstars, who are all excellent singers and dancers, Sandy doesn’t have to be able to dance or sing - he simply needs to make everyone go Awwww!”
Annie, The Musical, which has been awarded Event Funding by Angus Council, will be performed at the Kirriemuir Town Hall at 7.30 p.m. from June 12 until 14, with a matinee performance only on Saturday, June 15.
