Rehearsals underway for summer symphony

REHEARSALS for Tayside Symphony Orchestra’s next concert, to be held in the Reid Hall, Forfar, on Saturday, June 25, from 7.30 pm, are well underway.

Entitled “TSO Summer Symphony Concert”, the programme consists of Dvorak’s “Carnival” Overture, the Oboe Concerto by Richard Strauss, Wagner’s “Prelude and Liebestod” (“Tristan and Isolde”) and Dvorak’s “Scherzo Cappricioso”.

Geoffrey Bridge is to play the solo in the Oboe Concerto. For a number of years he has been a member of TSO’s wind section,

Geoffrey, a graduate of the Royal College of Music, has been involved with a number of professional orchestras, either as a soloist or playing member.

He was a teacher of woodwind in various schools and still coaches at several musical events.

Ron Walker, TSO conductor, said: “We hope this programme will suit a wide range of musical tastes. I am very much looking forward to collaborating with Geoffrey and I am sure our loyal Angus audience will be thrilled by his playing. I would like to pay tribute to our players who have regularly given up their free time to attend rehearsals. Their commitment is much appreciated. I only hope that Geoffrey and the orchestra, who have worked very hard in practice, get the audience they deserve for all their efforts. As usual we will be running a bus from Montrose/Brechin to Forfar at a nominal cost. For details contact John Stevenson on Montrose 676492 by June 20 at the latest. As ever we are grateful to our sponsors, Bowman, Scotish lawyers, and Kerr’s Miniature Railway, who have supported us for several years.”
