THE 77th annual concert held by the Arbroath Male Voice Choir takes place this Friday evening in the Webster Memorial Theatre, Arbroath at 7.30 pm.
The choir goes from strength to strength under its new musical director, Sheena Guthrie, with this year’s concert promising to continue a long tradition of excellent entertainment.
Guests this year are the popular and multi-talented Gordon Cree and Cheryl Forbes, making a welcome return after being a huge hit at the choir’s 75th anniversary concert in 2009.
With his rich baritone voice, Gordon he is well respected in many fields in music and the arts – as a singer in concert, theatre and cabaret; as piano soloist and accompanist; conductor and music arranger; character actor and after-dinner speaker. His cabaret section of the programme is a guaranteed audience-pleaser, incorporating jokes, songs and funny anecdotes.
Also classically-trained, mezzo-soprano Cheryl has sung with many of the UK’s leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and she appears regularly at prestigious venues throughout the country. Her repertoire ranges from opera to musical theatre. The choir, as always, aims to provide a varied programme of song with many old favourites and a selection of new works too.
Tickets priced £10 are available from the box office on 01241 435 800.
