Hospitalfield birthday

JAZZ at Arbroath’s Hospitalfield House will celebrate its 21st birthday this Saturday.

Ken Mathieson’s Classic Jazz Orchestra will mark the achievement in style at the venue which, over the years, has welcomed swing musicians from America, like Scott Hamilton, Joe Temperley and Warren Vache, from Europe such as Ulf Wakenius, and from England, Roy Williams, Alan Barnes and Jim Mullen.

Award-winning singers like Tina May, Clair Teal and Jacqui Dankworth have been there, with Paul Jones, Dave Kelly and New York’s Wood Mann on the blues front.

It has been the policy to also feature Scottish artists including pianists Brian Kellock and Paul Harrison and ex-Average White Band sax player Molly Duncan.

Ken Mathieson’s Classic Jazz Orchestra is regarded as one of the country’s most popular bands.

The award-winning eight-piece, featuring the best Scottish musicians, was formed in 2004 to explore the varied back catalogue of jazz.
