Colin Clyne and The Carrons will be the guests at Montrose Folk Club in the Links Hotel, Montrose on Thursday, March 12.
At the 2012 San Diego Music Awards in California, Colin won the award as the ‘Best Acoustic Act’, an accolade which he also won in 2011.
More recently, he was named by NBC San Diego as one of the top 12 singer songwriters in San Diego, included amongst an elite list which also featured Jewel, Tom Waits and the late Jim Croce.
A native of Stonehaven, Colin recently ended a 10-year sojourn in Southern California. He is now based back in the North East of Scotland where he has formed a six-piece band, named after the river which runs through his native Stonehaven, in order to provide a fuller backing sound for his outstanding song-writing.
The Carrons feature Montrose’s own Gary Anderson on mandolin, acoustic guitar and backing vocals, together with Clare Hesketh on backing vocals, Attila Kiss on cajon and percussion, Nick Townsend on bass and Tom Ward on guitar. The Carrons have put together a stripped-back acoustic sound especially for their gig at Montrose Folk Club.
In July 2014, Colin released his second album, entitled ‘The Never Ending Pageant’, produced by Grammy award winning Alan Sanderson and released through Fat Hippy Records of Aberdeen. Shortly after its release, the album reached number six in the iTunes UK Country Download Chart.
Together with The Carrons, Colin has been touring extensively in Scotland in order to promote the album in a live context. In the short time that Colin and The Carrons have been together, they have already secured support slots with Big Country, Skerryvore and the ex-frontman of Runrig, Donnie Munro, as well as playing numerous headline shows throughout the country.
Over the past couple of years, Colin has been a regular on both European and American radio, including BBC Scotland, Northsound, as well as 91X and KPRI in Southern California. Chris Hawkins of BBC Radio 6 Music described Colin’s song, ‘Stonehaven Radio Station and Me’ as “a very fine piece of work”.
The music of Colin Clyne and The Carrons is a very special sound which will appeal to all fans of Celtic music, folk or rock.
