Final preparations for summer concert

FINAL rehearsals are well underway for Tayside Symphony Orchestra’s next concert which will take place on Saturday, June 23 in the Reid Hall, Forfar, at 7.30 pm (doors open 6.45 pm).

The first part of TSO’s “Soirée de La Musique Francaise” consists of Charpentier’s “Fanfare” from “Te Deum”, followed by the Overture from “La Belle Helene” by Offenbach and Bizet’s Symphony No 1.

The second half begins with Gounod’s Petite Symphonie featuring the TSO Wind Group, Suite No. 1 from “Carmen” by Bizet and ends with Chabrier’s Marche Joyeuse.

Ron Walker, TSO conductor, said: “Appropriately the orchestra has decided to dedicate the concert to the memory of Michael Wilson, our very special volunteer for almost 20 years, who is very much missed by committee and players.

“For the programme we have deliberately chosen a number of pieces by popular French composers to suit a summer’s evening.

“Our theme is French as part of the concert proceeds will go to the Forfar-Chabanais Twinning Association which is celebrating its 20th birthday. I am very much looking forward to hearing the contribution from TSO Wind, they are very talented musicians who are either current TSO players or have performed with us in the past.

“I am sure that our loyal Angus audience will be thrilled not only by their playing but also that of the Orchestra whose rehearsals have gone very well.

“I wish to thank the players for all their hard work.”

A bus will be running from Montrose and Brechin at a nominal charge and those interested should contact John Stevenson on 01674 830250 as soon as possible.

The concert is sponsored by Bowman, Scottish Lawyers, Kerr’s Miniature Railway, Kohe-Noor and Astute (Scotland).

Tickets are available from Toy Castle, Forfar Hoggs, High Street, Montrose, any TSO committee member and on the door on the night.
