There is always magic at Dundee Rep over the Christmas season and this year will be no exception when the BFG takes to the stage.
Roald Dahl’s children’s classic will be performed by Dundee Rep Ensemble from Thursday, November 28 until Tuesday, December 31.
Adapted for the stage by David Wood and directed by Joe Douglas this captivating tale of good versus evil will delight children of all ages.
When Sophie spies a giant figure making his way down the road she is spotted, snatched, and soon begins her long journey to Giant Country.
Luckily for Sophie, this giant is the Big Friendly Giant who doesn’t eat ‘human beans’ just foul tasting snozzcumbers, fizzy frobscottle, and conjures the loudest Whizzpoppers you have ever heard!
Soon the unlikely duo team up to save the world from the flesh-eating giants from Giant Country. Assisted by the Army, the Airforce and even the Queen, the pair hatch a plan to capture the giants so the BFG can get back to more important work collecting and distribute good dreams to children all over the world.
Roald Dahl is the world’s number one storyteller, and an uncontested children’s favourite.
His trademark humour, nonsense language and unique storytelling come to life in this fantastic version, faithfully adapted for the stage by the award winning playwright David Wood. Beautifully designed by Jean Chan and with puppets by Ross Mackay this heart pounding gigantic adventure will have you on the edge of your seat.

Theatre goers are being invited to take along a gift for children in hospital over the festive period.
Dundee Rep Theatre is supporting this year’s Fairy Box Christmas appeal and will be accepting donations of new, unwrapped toys, books and games for children of all ages during the festive period.
The Fairy Box appeal provides gifts for children who are spending time in hospital and was launched on Midsummer’s day 2005. The charity was set up by Aimee and Rosie Butler after Aimee had spent long spells in hospital as a child. The Fairy Box appeal helps bring a little joy and happiness when things are difficult for children in hospital.
A Fairy Box is filled with donated gifts and kept on the children’s ward in hospitals where parents and medical staff have access to a gift to brighten up the day of a child in need of a lift to help them on the road to recovery. Fairy Box gift boxes have a magic of their own in helping children who are ill in hospital not just at Christmas time but all year round.
Fairy Box has provided a life-line of support and encouragement to many sick children and have now been established in hospitals in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Kirkcaldy, Perth and Dundee.
Donations can be handed into box office staff at the theatre; they will all be greatly received and much appreciated.
