THE Dundee Chamber Music Club have scored a real coup by attracting renowned pianist Paul Lewis to give a recital in the Caird Hall, Dundee on Monday, January 31.
Fresh from playing all five of Beethoven’s piano concertos at the BBC Proms, Paul Lewis gives a solo recital of Schubert, Sonato for Piano No. 15 in C, D840, three piano pieces D946 and Sonata for Piano in D, D850.
Paul Lewis is internationally recognised as one of the leading pianists of his generation who has won many awards.
In 2009 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Southampton. Between 2005 and 2007 he performed the complete Beethoven Sonatas at venues throughout Europe and North America to great critical acclaim, and his recordings of the cycle for Harmonia Mundi have received unanimous praise throughout the world.
In summer 2010, he became the first pianist in the history of the BBC Proms to play all five Beethoven Piano Concertos in a single Proms season.
The complete cycle was broadcast on BBC television.
He is also a regular guest at many other prestigious venues and festivals including the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, the Roque d’Antheron Piano Festival, the Klavier Festival Ruhr, and London’s Wigmore Hall where he has appeared on more than forty occasions. He has performed with many of the world’s leading orchestras including all of the major UK orchestras.
