Celebrate St Andrew

MUSIC to mark St Andrew’s night will be on offer at a special community concert organised by Angus Folk.

It will be held in Kirriemuir Old Parish Church Hall on Tuesday, November 29 at 7.30 pm.

There will be songs from Sheena Wellington and music from Gordon and Davie Ewan.

Sheena Wellington needs little introduction; she’s one of the best known and loved singers in Scotland today. Her repertoire covers everything from Burns to ballads to the best of contemporary song writing.

Gordon Ewan is a well-known local fiddler. Along with his twin brother, Davie, he’s known for a great repertoire of fine Scots tunes from 1700’s to the present day.

An avid fiddle enthusiast, described as “nuts-about-fiddles”, he can’t stop buying, examining and admiring fiddles. He’s admired as a talented sessioner (frequently to be found in Three Bellies Brae, Kirriemuir on Tuesday evenings) and sought after as a ceilidh band musician. Gordon will be joined by friends on the evening to share a selection of music.

Angus Folk is a community singing group who meet each Tuesday in Kirriemuir to learn and share traditional Scots songs (and other songs from round the world that take our fancy).

The emphasis of the group is fun and friendship. Tickets are £6 (concessions £5, children £3). Wine and soft drinks will be available before the concert and again during the interval when a buffet supper will also be served. Donations will be gratefully received in return for the refreshments and a raffle will be held to help raise funds for Angus Folk (www.angusfolk.org).

Tickets are available from Angus Folk members, by calling 07842 227202 or e.mailing info@angusfolk.org. Tickets may also be available on the evening of the concert.
