DIE Fledermaus, surely one of the world’s most famous operettas, has been given a glittering new look by the country’s best small-scale operetta company.
Opera della Luna have earned themselves a matchless reputation, touring the country for over ten years with acclaimed productions of Gilbert and Sullivan and Offenbach. They now turn their hand to the “waltz king”: Johann Strauss which will they will perform at the Webster Memorial Theatre, Arbroath on Friday, May 6.
This entirely new, saucy, production is directed by Jeff Clarke, and designed by Gabriella Csanyi-Wills: the team that created the company’s recent wonderful production of The Mikado.
Dr Falke left to wander home, drunk, and dressed as a bat, by his friend Gabriel von Eisenstein exacts his revenge. He arranges for Eisenstein to attend an extremely risqué party at the home of Russian aristocrat, Prince Orlofsky, and there Eisenstein seduces a mysterious Hungarian countess, who is in fact his own wife in disguise.
It promises to be an evening not to be missed by all fans of opera and lunacy!
