Open doors for Montrose artist

MONTROSE artist Derrick Heeney was among over 50 artists who took part in the first Angus Open Studios event.

His studio is located in the premises which used to be the Spar shop on Brechin Road in Montrose and is normally open Tuesday and Thursday 7 pm to 9pm, on Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm and Sunday 1 pm to 5 pm. Appointments can also be made outwith these hours.

Derrick was born and educated in Dundee, attended Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, where he graduated in 2005 with a BA (Hons) Fine Art (Printmaking).

Derrick works in a wide range of medium and has recently been working on paintings and etchings of local scenery as well as portraits. He is also working on a variety of prints at DCA Print Studio in Dundee.

Derrick is currently exhibiting at Marywell Gallery, Marywell, Aberdeenshire which opens on Friday, June 3 and runs to the end of August.

He is also exhibiting at the Glenesk Retreat, Aberdeenshire, in Holburn Gallery in Aberdeen, and works are also available from Blue Door Gallery in Montrose and Dundee Contemporary Art Centre, Dundee.

Forthcoming exhibitions include Dundee Art Society Summer Exhibition in Roseangle Gallery in June, Auchenblae Art Show 2011 at the beginning of September and Edinburgh Art Show 2011 in October to name a few.
