THREE leading Irish dance companies will perform at Dundee Rep Theatre during the next week, getting 2011 off to a glittering start.
First up is a double bill of contemporary dance called ‘We haven’t Gone Away You Know!’ (tonight, January 27), followed by the international dance sensation Spirit of the Dance (February 2 to 5).
Fallout by Dylan Quinn Dance Theatre and Hanging in There by Nick Bryson and Damian Punch make up the double bill ‘We haven’t Gone Away Yet!’ exploring what it’s like to be part of Ireland’s unstable political history. Fallout is a solo piece which mixes dance, theatre and video to explore the increasing levels of violence in our society as described by a slightly manic sports commentator.
Hanging in There, choreographed and performed by Nick Bryson and Damian Punch, is an internationally acclaimed satirical performance exploring delusions and duplicity within the world of Northern Ireland’s politics. The dancers behind both pieces will take part in a post show discussion in the auditorium, the perfect opportunity to find out more about the dancers and the inspiration behind their work.
Next week international smash hit Sprit of the Dance, one of the most successful shows ever to come out of Ireland, perform at the Rep. Seen by more than 25 million people in 15 countries around the world, this powerful show combines heart-pounding Irish dancing, sensual Latino rhythms of Flamenco and red hot salsa. This award- winning, foot stomping spectacular with brilliant lighting, dazzling costumes and breathtaking choreography is not to be missed.
