Doug Scott lecture

MOUNTAINEER Doug Scott, who has reached the summit of 40 peaks, will give a lecture at the Webster Memorial Theatre, Arbroath on Tuesday, October 25 at 7 pm.

Apart from his climb up the South West Face of Everest with Dougal Haston during Chris Bonington’s Expedition of 1975, he has made all his climbs in lightweight or Alpine Style and has reached the highest peaks on all seven continents - “the seven summits.” Doug was made a CBE in 1994 and in 1999 he received the Royal Geographical Society Patron’s Gold Medal.

Doug will describe some of his most extraordinary climbs and how he has helped preserve the natural world, and the people in it, through the creation of Community Action Nepal, giving back to the local mountain people who had, in effect, made all his climbs possible. He will be joined at this lecture by Gelong Karma Jiga, a Buddhist monk. Doug and Jiga have worked together for many years to raise funds for CAN and funds from this year’s tour will also support Nilupul Foundation. Ticket details from the box office on 01241 435800.
