malcolm Lowe, Station Park’s “Player of the Year” in season 1970-71 and who was freed by the Athletic last week, has signed for Montrose.

Malcolm, who is 23 and lives in Forfar, played a trial at Links Park on Thursday and was offered terms immediately afterwards.

A rink from Canmore Ladies Bowling Club won the Open League at Arbroath Indoor Bowling Club - the first time the title has come out of Arbroath.

The rink comprised F. Stewart, A. Adamson, M. Tyrie and M. Black (skip). F. Stewart, A. Adamson and M. Black (skip) also won the Ladies Triple Championship.

Forfar Athletic 0, Dundee United 2

In the semi-final of the Forfarshire Cup at Station Park, the Athletic put up a fighting display but, in the end, went down by two goals to nil. The visitors were held at the interval, but two goals by Frank Kopel in the second half saw them through to the final with Dundee.

FORFAR Athletic’s promotion lifeline finally snapped on English soil on Saturday.

Defeat at the hands of Berwick Rangers in a fast-flowing match played in glorious sunshine left them floundering three points behind their opponents and Arbroath with only the one remaining league match left to play.

The result also brought to an end a fine league run which has brought Forfar 11 out of the possible 14 points since the end of the memorable Scottish Cup campaign.

Forfar Youth Club are through to the semi-final of the Nelson Cup.

After a fairly even opening period they took the lead against Lowson United in 25 minutes.

Barry Gray was the marksman heading a corner powerfully home. Barry then notched his second goal before Clark Low made the initial break, his fine shot rebounding from the bar for Black to put away the rebound.

forfar West End proved they are still a Division One force with a convincing win over champions-elect Tayport.

They beat the visitors 2-1 - the win guaranteed West End fourth place in the league.

THE Masons clinched the first division title in the Forfar and District Sunday Pub League.

They defeated old rivals Victoria by five goals to three to get their hands on the coveted piece of silverware.

FORFAR Athletic’s veteran defender Ally Brazil has retired after five seasons at Station Park. Dave MacKinnon has also left after a short-term contract expired.
