Letham snowboarder Alex Rooney is raring to go ahead of the start of this year’s competition programme with a spot at the Olympics in his sights.
The Forfar Academy pupil - formerly of Letham Primary - has been busy training all over the UK, splitting his time between venues in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Manchester.
In fact, so well is he doing that he was just voted ‘best rider’ in Manchester this week.
Not only that, but prestigious sponsors Lib Tech - who only lend their name to three boards in the UK - have invited the young star to join them in a private coaching session next week.
Alex is going from strength to strength and continues to progress at an astonishing rate.
And that is great news for his Olympic aspirations as the lad is eager to secure a berth on the British team for the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea in 2018.
Fortunately, Forfar Academy have been extremely supportive of the talented kid, permitting him time off for training and for competitions.
Earlier this year Alex won gold in a team event in Castleford before he won the English Ski and Boarder Cross Championships (SBX) in Manchester - continuing a sublime run of wins in all the competitions he’s entered.
