Trio of local swim wins

Forfar Amateur Swimming Club participated in the Premier League gala a week past Saturday at Arbroath.

Although the team was placed fifth against St Thomas with 166 points, Perth (165), Kinross (152) and Dundee City Aquatics with 135 points, all the swimmers battled so hard against really tough opposition and deserve a huge pat on the back for their efforts.

They had three winners – sister and brother Erin and Rohan Brown in the four lengths backstroke and Luke Millar in the breaststroke.

The 11/12 boys comprising Rohan, Luke, Matthew McSheffrey, Jack Green, Callum Kelman and Mac Whyte took 20 points out of a possible 30.

Mac fought well to be second in the 100m freestyle.

The ten and under girls of Morven Whyte, Jade Doig, Hannah Murray and Lauryn Millar all swam well.

Hannah was in fine form taking second place in the 50m freestyle.

A big thank you goes to Morven and Nicholas Fletcher, who took on the daunting 50m fly without complaint.

Nicholas was a member of the ten and under boys’ team, along with Ethan Brown, Jack Laird and Grant Brown.

Chloe Reilly, Niamh McSheffrey, Becky Laird, Becky Wilmshurst and Molly Sinclair swam for the 11/12 girls team and put in their usual sterling performance.

The 13/14 girls comprised of sisters Lucy and Kirsty Richardson, Karri Milne and Erin Brown who all worked hard for their team.

In the 15 and over age group, Nicki Wilmshurst, Ellie Mccallum, Beth Milne and Zoe Wilmshurst swam for the girls and Glen Milne, Mike Mackenzie, Callum Brown and Ryan Nicoll swam for the boys.

Gala Star was Erin Brown, whilst the coaches couldn’t decide a single man of the meet, so Luke Millar and Rohan Brown were both given the honour.

Endeavour certificates were presented to Mac Whyte and Hannah Murray.

Thanks go to Wilma, Mike, Gary and Claire for their help on poolside. A reminder that all squad swimmers should attend the Saturday night sessions in Kirriemuir.
