Kirriemuir Curling Club did well to secure a win against Fothringham in the Peter Pan Bonspiel last Tuesday.

Sandy Carle (Skip), Dave Congreve, Jaromir Krucyznski and Stuart Cameron played consistently to win 9-5.

Good stones from Stuart set things up for an effective drawing performance from the rest of the team. Although 9-5 was a good result it was insufficient in “shot difference” to take the trophy.

The Grand Finale of the 2013/14 season came on Saturday when the club played its three rink Bonspiel. Twenty four Kirriemuir curlers competed for the Jim Moffat Trophy.

The draw produced the following games skipped by: Angus Redford v Stuart Cameron; Jaromir Krucyznski v Dave Congreve and Mike Downie v Alistair Pirie.

The format of the competition was changed this year so that the most experienced players played the early stones and the less experienced players played the later stones.

This resulted in much consultation in some situations which slowed some play. However it was the closing Bonspiel and it was fun.

In the end Stuart Cameron emerged as a worthy winner his, win having the largest shots difference compared with other results. Stuart certainly rounded off a good season with a 12-3 win over Angus Redford.

Unusually, both skips had the experience of having their fathers participating in their rink. The other results were Jaromir won 9-2 and Mike won 9-5.

The trophy was presented to Stuart by secretary Gordon Elliot.

Having received the trophy, Stuart thanked all those who organised, and those who participated in, the Bonspiel. Eighteen Members stayed on to enjoy an excellent supper provided by the Ice Rink.

All club members should note the club annual general meeting will be held at Kirriemuir Golf Club on Friday, April 25 at 7 for 7.30 p.m.
