Season continues for Kirrie Men’s curlers

Malcolm Nicoll (skip), Jim Strathearn, Mike Downie and Mietek Lojewski played Dave Anderson (skip), Russell Hamilton, Sandy Carle and Neil Redford in the club league last Wednesday.

This game was played at a pace as nine ends were contested. Malcolm’s rink lost five shots early on which meant playing “catch-up” all through the match. In spite of winning five of the nine ends Malcolm’s side lost 5-9.

Kirrie Men have struggled a bit this year in their attempts to get favourable results from their Agricar League games.

On Thursday past Russell Hamilton (skip), Malcolm Nicoll, Sandy Carle and Neil Redford faced The Angus Glens. Kirrie were down 5-1 after three ends but fought back to be in the lead 7-6 after eight ends. However, the bell hadn’t gone so a ninth end had to be played. The Glens scored a brace (after a measure) to give them the game 8-7.

Still under the Agricar heading Kirrie played a rearranged game against Forfar Ladies on Monday, February 10. Russell Hamilton (skip), Gordon Thomson, Sandy Carle and Jaromir Krucyznski were in good form. They didn’t give the Ladies much room to manoeuvre and secured a much needed 10-2 win.

The final match of the preliminary round of the pairs competition was due to be played on Friday. However, travel uncertainty with heavy snow falling resulted in the game being cancelled. A rearranged game time will need to be agreed between Malcolm Nicoll and Sandy Carle.
