Two Forfar Academy boys have received a national nod after they were called up to the Scotland U13s boys’ basketball squad.
Elgin Govan, 12, and Lewis Davison, 13, were confirmed as part of the Scotland team earlier this month.
It’s another success for Govan who also featured for the U12 squad last season.
Govan, who plays for Grampian Flyers, and Davison, who plays for Tayside Musketeers, were selected to be part of basketballscotland’s Future Starz programme after attending trials in September. The programme is focused on the development of young players in Scotland.
It was through Future Starz that the lads tried out for Scotland, and they were with the rest of the squad for their first training session just over a week ago.
Intense training sessions will become the norm for the Forfar boys over the coming weeks as the Scots prepare for a trip to Andorra at the beginning of May for the TIM Pireneus Tournament. Both boys need to self-fund their travel for training as well as paying a personal amount towards the Andorra trip.
Not only that but the team as a whole are required to raise £3,000.
The lads are eager to encourage local businesses to sponsor them individually, or the whole team, to help them out on their road to glory. If any of our readers are interested, please contact the Forfar Dispatch and we will put you in touch with Elgin or Lewis’s family.
Since receiving their selection news both Elgin and Lewis were in the Forfar Academy S1 Basketball team who were runners-up in the Scottish Schools Cup this week at Grangemouth.
