Strathmore Under-18s started off their season campaign with an away trip to local rivals Carnoustie.
This Sevens game had an extra bit of spice to it as some of the Carnoustie players had played for Strathie last year.
This was the first time in 30 years Carnoustie had fielded a team at Under-18 level and the two teams played entertaining seven’s rugby in windy conditions at Shanwell Road on this special occasion for the home team.
Carnoustie had the upper hand in the first half with Strathmore taking longer to settle but they came back strongly in the second half with tries from Irvine Gartley and Macaulay Holgate. Paul McGregor successfully drop kicked the conversions.
After a brief interval Strathie started the second match where they had left off with good work from forwards John Wright and Irvine Gartley.
This allowed Joel Farrell to feed the ball out to Robbie Ling who off-loaded in the tackle perfectly to Darren Bell who ran down the wing to score a great try.
Carnoustie came back at Strathie and finished the game off with a few quick tries in the second half of the second match.
Overall it was a great first team performance for Strathie Under-18s.
The final result was 46-24.
Training for the Under-18s is held on Monday and Wednesday nights at 6.30 p.m.
