Ann Ramsay of Kirriemuir Golf Club followed up her recent achievement of reaching the final of the Strathtyrum Trophy at St. Andrews by setting a new ladies course record at Kirriemuir with an eight under par score of 65.
Playing in the September Monthly Medal, Ann beat her previous record by four shots and included seven threes and 11 fours.
The previous record had stood for seven years and no doubt the new score will be a target for all ladies playing at Kirriemuir for many years to come.
Ann’s personal success is the most recent at Kirriemuir, with the gents team winning the Strathmore League final at Piper Dam this year, after finishing as runners-up last year.
Junior members have also been selected to represent Angus County, whilst the ladies are unbeaten in their inter-club matches so far.
The seniors have maintained the more social side of ‘competitive’ golf with their full programme of fixtures against other local clubs, with the second leg of the match for the ‘Ball of Kirriemuir’ against New Club, St. Andrews, in two weeks time bringing the men’s seniors matches to a conclusion.
In addition the club captain, Alan Tucker, celebrated his first hole in one, which was at the 8th hole at Kirrie in a medal round last Thursday.
The above successes together with regular medal competitions and plenty of non-competitive golf, show a club that has a great mix of competitive and friendly golf played in a welcoming environment.
With a course, professional and clubhouse to match, Kirriemuir is a club that is worth being part of.
To encourage membership the board of directors of the club have decided to offer a Taster Open Day for anyone interested in joining Kirriemuir to come and try before they buy.
Sunday, September 25 is the date of this event, and anyone who is looking for an excellent golf club to join is invited to come along and play a round of golf at a special rate for the day of just £12 .
To book a tee time for that day call the pro shop (01575 573317).
On the day members of the board and other club members will be there to welcome potential new club members.
Special offers on playing and social subscriptions will be available on the day for those wishing to join and play or enjoy the facilities through the winter months.
Kirriemuir offers not only full golfing memberships, but also under-26, super social, country and overseas as well as social memberships, all at different levels of cost.
Even if you don’t want to play golf on the open day but only want to buy a cup of coffee and home baked cake or a meal, come along and see what is on offer.
