The season has drawn to a close for members of Kirriemuir Ladies Curling Club with a flurry of games over the last fortnight.

The Autumn League games were concluded with a bit of a struggle.

All rinks featured a number of subs, some from outwith the club.

Isobel Keillor and Jenny Arbuckle with June Coull (Angus Glens) and Isla Miller (Lundie & Auchterhouse) were against Wilma McGibbon, Irene Mackie, Fiona Irving (sub) and Morag
Burns.

The infusion of new blood was just what the Keillor rink needed and they forged ahead with a 7-1 lead at the halfway stage.

The McGibbon rink was the high scorer in the second half taking five shots to the Keillor rink’s two singles making the final score 9-6 to Team Keillor.

On the adjoining rink Eileen Cramond, Moira Estill, Sheila Bradley (Angus Glens) and Barbara Sherriff (sub) won 10-9 against Maggie Orr (subbing for Skip Ruth Baynes), Sandi Buchan, Elizabeth Keillor (sub) and Jessma Lindsay(sub).

The winner of the Autumn League is Ruth Baynes who, sadly, took ill during February and was unable to complete her remaining games.

However, at that time she had won all four of her games and her subs won another and lost one, giving her a total of 10 points, four points clear of the nearest challenger. Club members wish Ruth a speedy recovery and hope to see her back on the ice next
season.

The last Evening League game against Fothringham 2 resulted in a 7-4 defeat for Kirrie who have not had a successful year in this league.

However, Kirrie did finish the Ladies Friendship League on a high. With Katherine Cran and Wilma McGibbon both playing well and good last stones from Irene Mackie, Jessma Lindsay (Skip and lead) won 10-7 against Dalhousie.

Four rinks took part in the Club’s Closing Bonspiel. Skips Maggie Orr and Wilma McGibbon finished with two points each and Eileen Cramond and Isobel Keillor each had four points. After a recount, the winner of the trophy was the Keillor rink with Marlyn Foster, Fiona Irving and Betty Whytock.

Members are reminded the annual general meeting will be held at the ice rink on Monday, April 28 at 7.30 p.m.
