LOCAL darts enthusiasts are clamouring for tickets to see two of the biggest names in the sport in action in Kirriemuir.
Dutch born Raymond van Barneveld, five times World Darts champion, will face Scotland’s top ranked player Gary Anderson in a head-to-head in Kirriemuir Town Hall on Friday, May 27 in front of what looks set to be a capacity audience.
There will also be the opportunity for 16 local players to test their skills against two of the world’s elite.
Organising the local shoot-out between Barney and Anderson is Jim Glendinning of the Roods Bar in Kirriemuir, who explains that there has been a pleasing initial response for tickets.
Indeed the £30 tickets for seats in the main hall are going fast, with only a limited amount available, while, for £25, you can secure a place in the balcony for what promises to be an evening of top class darts action.
For those keen to take to the stage over three legs against either Barney or Gary the qualifying heats are now underway on Saturday afternoons from 2 pm in the Roods Bar.
Heats will be held every Saturday afternoon until the big night, with the top players going through to take on one of the two household names in darts.
The entry fee for the qualifiers is £3 and you can enter as often as you like in a bid to claim a coveted place on stage on the night.
Come May 27 sixteen players will have qualified - eight to take on Barney and the other eight to face Anderson.
In addition to the darts action there will be a raffle on the night – with an array of darts memorabilia up for grabs and all the proceeds going to the local Girl Guide and Boys’ Brigade units.
Full ticket details are available by contacting Jim Glendinning at the Roods Bar on 01575 572640.
