Kirrimuir Curling Club’s opening bonspiel had six teams competing for the Stan Milne Trophy and there was plenty of keen curling over the three rinks.

The Skips were G. Elliot against S. Ritchie, D. Henderson against D. Congrieve and D. Urquhart against G Thomson. Doug Henderson achieved the highest points difference of 10-3 and therefore won the Trophy.

Derek Smith became too keen and fell on the ice. Although he was taken to A&E at Ninewells Hospital, he is now out and recovering from a nasty fall.

Next up was the Mixed Bonspiel where two of the teams competing comprised a combination of Kirre Ladies and Kirrie Men. Team One was Doug Henderson (skip), Jessma Lindsay, Dave Congrieve, and Isobel Keillor and they played Fothringham. Their game finished 11-6 in Fothringham’’s favour.

Team Two was Wilma McGibbon (Skip), Gordon Thomson, Eileen Crammond and Bill Keillor. They experienced a very close game with only singles being exchanged at each end.

The Kirrie team won 5-3 thanks to a perfect final stone from skip Wilma, her stone drew the pot lid to gain the point and cancel the two stones hitherto lying against.

Kirrie’s Agricar League journey started well last Thursday with a good win against Monifieth. The whole Kirrie team comprising Russell Hamilton (skip), Gordon Elliot, Angus Redford, and Ian Melrose played well. Kirrie won 12-4.
