WEATHER WASHES OUT STRATHIE FIRST TEAM ACTION

STRATHMORE Cricket Club first eleven's bid to rack up a fourth straight league victory was thwarted by inclement weather at the weekend.

Heavy rain on the Friday and into Saturday morning meant that the covers remained over the lochside ground and no play in the home match against Rossie Priory.

Hopefully, the weather will improve for this coming Saturday when Strathie firsts entertain Strathearn.

The second team will be on their travels on Sunday, heading for Glendelvine.

The action at lochside on Sunday will centre on the Factory Cup competition, with the semi-final and final of the 2010 tourney to be played off, the action getting underway at 2 pm (see separate story).

Meanwhile, all at Strathmore Cricket Club were saddened to learn of the death of former club treasurer Adrian Pollard.

Adrian passed away on Sunday at the age of 65, having been battling illness in recent months.

He first became involved in Strathmore Cricket Club in 1999 when he took over as treasurer, a post he was to hold for a decade, before handing the reins over to Walter Lee in December last year.

His accountancy experience, allied to his shrewd judgements, guided the club through a difficult financial period.

An avid cricket supporter, Adrian, when he first came to lochside, took the odd game for the second eleven.

The Strathmore first eleven at home to Strathearn on Saturday is as follows (players to meet at 12 noon):- Christopher Milne (captain), Steven Blackie, Nigel Hazel, Michael Gourlay, Matthew Simpson, Mark Stewart, Gary Hewitson, Dale Sweeney, Imran Haider Saim, Callum AW Howie and Norman Milton; reserve, Grant McLaren.
