STRATHIE EDGED OUT FOR SECOND WEEK RUNNING

STRATHMORE Cricket Club's first team were pipped at the post for the second week in succession, when they entertained Arbroath United on Saturday past.

The home side really didn't get enough runs on the board when they enjoyed first lease of the wicket.

Nobody got in and stayed, with wickets tumbling at regular intervals, Strathie eventually all out for 151 in the 42nd over.

The first wicket fell with the score on 27, and Strathie found themselves three down with only 43 on the board and 93 for five.

Steve Blackie top scored with 26, Mark Stewart contributing 19 to the total.

M. Fleming was the best of the Arbroath bowlers with three for 23, G. Peal chipping in with two for 34 and C. Cameron taking two for six.

In reply, Strathie got off to the perfect start, Blackie bowling J. Plover for a duck.

Like Strathie, the visitors found runs hard to come by and, with the home side keeping the pressure on courtesy of a trio of run-outs, the game went right to the wire, just as it did at Dundee High the previous Saturday.

Arbroath United went in to the final over requiring three runs for victory with just two wickets remaining.

With nine wickets down, it took two runs off the final over by James Bowick to give United maximum points, and leave Strathie disappointed for the second Saturday in succession.

The first team will bid to get back on track this coming Saturday when they travel to take on Stoneywood Dyce.
