FORFAR Athletic and Arbroath were both denied a point after being beaten by late goals on Saturday, writes Sarah McLean.

However, that was good news for Brechin City who took away a win from Gayfield in their first competitive game since mid-January.

Despite holding the Glebe Park side to a 0-0 scoreline, Arbroath conceeded in the 87th minute when Alan Trouten made it 1-0.

Brechin remain third in the Second Division behind Queen of the South and Alloa Athletic and have four games in hand over Alloa and three games in hand over Arbroath who are sitting fourth.

Brechin City are now looking to keep their run going when they hosted Ayr United on Tuesday night as we went to press.

On Saturday they will host East Fife at home.

Arbroath had a long away trip on Tuesday night against Stranraer and are away again on Saturday against Alloa Athletic.

Forfar Athletic had their fair share of decent chances against Alloa Athletic on Saturday but failed to find the back of the net, apart from one offside effort.

Alloa on the other hand had virtually no chances but found the net with just two minutes to go.

This Saturday, the Loons will travel to Ayr United in the hopes of bringing back a much needed three points as they look to get back into the play-off spots.

In the Third Division, Montrose launched themselves back into the play-off spots after two disappointing results when they recorded a 4-1 home win over Elgin City.

Goals for the home side came from Garry Wood, Stephen McNally, Martin Boyle and Ricky McIntosh.

The win saw Elgin City drop to fifth but it still remains tight in the league apart from Rangers who are storming away at the top with 59 points.

Queen’s Park sit second but have no chance of catching up as they currently have 37 points.

The Links Park outfit is now on equal points with Peterhead as they go into Saturday’s clash against Annan Athletic.
