Kirrie Thistle at the double

Kirrie Thistle are celebrating after winning double honours this season by taking the North Division title and the League Cup.

A 3-2 win over Montrose Roselea at Broomfield on Saturday saw them clinch the title after a roller-coaster season for the Westview side.



Kirrie took the lead in 10 minutes from a free kick Robert Smith took the kick from 22 yards and his low drive squirmed under Roselea ‘keeper Mcleod and into the net with the conditions playing a part.

They added a second goal to their tally in 40 minutes. A long ball caught out the Roselea defence as it bounced through and Sievewright did well to shoot home from a very tight angle.

Two minutes before half-time Farquharson was shown a red card for a stamp on Craig Anderson leaving them with 10 men.

In the second half Roselea got a goal back in 55 minutes and levelled in 67 minutes.

Kirrie were dealt another blow in 70 minutes when keeper Stewart had to leave the field of play and was replaced by outfield player Russell.

Four minutes into stoppage time Sievewright broke on the right and squared for the in rushing Cooney who scored from close range and send the Kirrie players and support into raptures.
