Kirrie Thistle went down 3-0 away to a physical Glenrothes Juniors side at the weekend.
Despite welcoming back defensive stalwarts Logan and Morrice it took only two minutes for Glenrothes to take the lead. However, a good ball in by Logan ricocheted off Miller and into the keeper’s hands which showed Kirrie were up for a fight. An equaliser almost came from a George free kick, floated onto S. Russell’s head which deflected past the post.
From the corner S. Russell again rose highest to head off the crossbar. Glenrothes grabbed a second against the run of play. A punt upfield by goalkeeper Smith bounced twice, once over Kirrie keeper Stewart before a goal line scramble resulted in Griffin tapping in. Stewart redeemed himself, preventing his side from falling further behind moments after, solidly blocking Napier’s snapshot from 12 yards. Logan had a high lob cleared off the line by Anderson but Kirrie could not pull a goal back. Glenrothes sealed the win via Thompson, smashing in a poorly defended corner.
The second half proved a tighter affair with few chances created by either side.
