A double from Chris Templeman helped Forfar Athletic to a 4-1 victory over Inverurie Loco Works on Tuesday night.
Gavin Swankie opened the scoring after just 15 minutes of the Loons’ first open-doors friendly before strike partner Templeman hit a brace before half time.
Locos pulled one back right after the second half kicked off when Neil Gauld was able to flick a header in at the near post from a corner before Craig Smith hit Forfar’s fourth in injury time.
Forfar lined up with three trialists on the park with Danny Denholm the solitary new signing with a starting berth - Dale Hilson was on the bench while Derek Young observed from the stands.
Omar Kader’s corner was headed wide by a trialist before Michael Dunlop played a brilliant diagonal ball to Denholm, the winger cutting inside the right back before his shot was blocked for a corner.
It wasn’t long before the Loons were in front though, Gavin Malin slicing the visitor’s defence in two with a sublime pass for Swankie - the striker saw his shot rebound off the onrushing goalkeeper but he was able to head it into an empty net.
Templeman added the second less than 20 minutes later, nodding in from a Denholm corner.
Malin had to block Ryan Broadhurst’s effort right on the line at the other end before Darren Hill made a great save from Neil McLean’s strike.
It was two for Templeman and three for Forfar when goalkeeper Andy Reid played a poor ball out to a defender that the striker was all too happy to collect before rolling it past the stopper.
Gauld gave Inverurie a route back into the game with his 46th minute header but despite a good spell of pressure, the visitors were unable to score again before substitute Smith skipped past Reid with ease, firing home right at the end of the game.
