Forfar Athletic Supporters’ Club was pleased to present club chairman Alastair Donald with a cheque for £21,000 following the Loons’ 4-2 win over Ayr United last Saturday.
The presentation ceremony was attended by supporters club president Linda Craik, secretary Laura Sutherland and long-serving treasurer David Strachan who gave Mr Donald the generous sum.
That figure was raised primarily through the match day fund-raising activities, which are now conducted by a small but very dedicated group of volunteers
Special praise was given by the supporters’ club to Rhona Shepherd and her band of volunteers who have manned the refreshment kiosks at Station Park on a voluntary basis this season, undoubtedly the busiest campaign at the ground in recent memory.
This season included three visits from Rangers, a Scottish Cup quarter final with St Johnstone, two appearances from the travelling army of Dunfermline fans and no less than five local derbies.
Club president Linda Craik and her committee would be delighted to hear from any supporter eager to assist with the group’s activities in the year ahead, especially as it is anticipated that the new facilities at Station Park could be used for some fund-raising activities.
Work on those new facilities continued this week as contractors were expected to begin preparation on the new purpose-built unit, with an anticipated completion and handover scheduled for late June.
The new unit will feature a sponsors’ lounge and four hospitality lounges, all seating up to 12 people on a match day, but as was the case in the old unit two of these lounges can be used as a single room to accommodate 20 or more visitors.
