Forfar Athletic dropped back to seventh in League One after a 4-1 defeat to Stenhousemuir in a mid-table clash at Ochilview on Saturday.
The home side were pretty solid throughout and the brace each from Sean Dickson and Darren Smith were clinical but the Loons had little to take from the game.
Neither goal had seriously been threatened until the 13th minute when the home side took the lead.
Sean Dickson released Smith down the left and the midfielder cut in before cooly stroking past the advancing Rab Douglas and in at the far post.
Stenhousemuir goalie Chris Smith threw out a hand to block Chris Templeman’s point blank header in the 27th minute.
Dickson was denied by Rab Douglas’s full-stretch save at the other end before the break, and immediately following the restart both Stewart Greacen and Dickson had netbound efforts stopped on the line.
After that start it was something of a surprise when Stuart Malcolm was left unmarked to head home the leveller in the 59th minute, but the Warriors gave the Loons little time to celebrate by going back in front just two minutes later.
Dickson followed up his fierce shot that came back off the bar to nod home and then tapped into the net for his second from close range with 73 minutes on the clock.
Two minutes from time Stenhousemuir sub Sean Lynch sent Smith clean through with a superb pass and he again kept his cool to angle past the exposed Douglas for his second and his side’s fourth.
