Match-day volunteers sought

FORFAR Athletic directors have issued an appeal for volunteers to help with match-day duties ahead of the 2012-2013 campaign.

“Thankfully, after struggling for some years, the position with regard to steward numbers seems to have been resolved and all credit to safety officer Iain Reid on this front,” comments club secretary David McGregor.

“However the club is, as ever, on the look-out for the anyone willing to assist with programme and 50/50 ticket selling and hosting match day hospitality.”

Mr McGregor explains that the selling of programmes or 50/50 tickets would take up arounf 30 to 45 minutes of fans’ time prior to match-day kick-off.

“Although the club’s 50/50 prize on a match day compares favourably with many clubs, this is often down in the main to sales within the hospitality units and boardroom,” he adds.

“There is little doubt that, with a couple of extra and in particular boisterous assistants on the terracing and in the stand, revenue from this source could be improved.”

Alan Shepherd, the director in charge of the hospitality units on match days, is always on the lookout for appropriate volunteers to assist in this exceptionally vital role at the club.

“With four units to be ‘policed’ at each home game it is a demanding role on the day,” adds Mr McGregor.

“However, it is also an enjoyable way to assist the club ensuring that the paying guests get every opportunity to enjoy the now legendary Station Park hospitality experience.

“Fans do not have to commit to every home game as a rota system does operate to a degree already and this can hopefully be extended in the future.

“Hosts do, however, have to be available from just prior to 1 pm until approximately 6.30 pm.”

Anyone who feels able to volunteer their services for any of the above duties should contact club secretary David McGregor on 01307 464924 (home) or 07871 165689 (mobile) or e mail

The Forfar Athletic supporters’ club has also seen active numbers diminish over the past couple of seasons.

President Linda Craik and her committee would be delighted to welcome any new faces who would like to get involved to the annual general meeting, which is scheduled to take place in the boardroom at Station Park on the evening of Thursday, June 28.
