Loons delighted with three points

Forfar Athletic broke their streak of six games without a win with a 3-2 victory over a struggling Arbroath side at Gayfield on Saturday.

A Dale Hilson goal within the first 15 minutes took the Loons into the lead going into the break with another two to follow from Gavin Swankie in the second half.

The home side pulled back a couple of goals in the closing stages of the game but it was not enough to take a share of the spoils.

Loons boss Dick Campbell said: “I thought our goals were great goals, they were fantastic.

“We came away with three points and the object of the exercise was to get those three points.

“I think for 60 minutes we were well in control of the game.

“I’m delighted we got the three points.”

This Saturday Forfar Athletic are on the road again this time south to Ochilview to face Stenhousemuir.

The Loons have just leapfrogged The Warriors in the table by jumping back up to sixth and with a game in hand this is set to be a very interesting mid-table clash indeed.

Stenhousemuir have taken four points from their last four games.

In their most recent encounter they became only the second team to hold league leaders Rangers to a draw this season with a final score-line of 3-3.

Meanwhile, Forfar Athletic’s re-scheduled league fixture at Ibrox on Tuesday, March 25, has been moved again due to the fact that Rangers’ away game the previous weekend at Glebe Park has been moved to the Sunday due to BT Sport live coverage.

It has been rescheduled for the following evening, Wednesday, March 26, with a 7.45 p.m. kick-off.

However, at the time of going to press there was potential for the fixture to be changed yet again due to the fact Celtic will face Partick Thistle at Firhill that same evening. Confirmation will be needed from Police Scotland as to whether this fixture will get the go-ahead.
