Forfar West End’s promotion to the McBookie.com East Region Premier League was confirmed this week after Downfield could only draw 2-2 with Lochore Welfare on Wednesday evening.
Downfield needed to win all their remaining games while recording a 27-goal swing in order to stop the Strathmore Park outfit joining East Region North Division champions Dundee North End in the second tier.
But it was not meant to be and Daryl McKenzie’s troops secured a well deserved promotion, bringing an end to a two-year spell in the bottom division after the club had to go into an abeyance.
The side’s record-breaking run of 12 consecutive victories saw the team safe to promotion and those heroic players have signed new deals en masse ahead of a huge 2014/15 season.
That campaign will see West End take on the likes of Tayport, St Andrews and Bathgate Thistle.
Also on the cards is a fixture with Angus rivals Montrose Roselea.
One team that won’t be in the Premier Division though is Kirrie Thistle, who saw their relegation to the East Region North Division confirmed last week.
