Kirrie Thistle slumped to a disappointing 3-1 home defeat to a poor Kirkcaldy YM team, leaving them in the relegation places with several games in hand.
Kirkcaldy started confidently, Greig firing a low effort into Mark Stewarts grasp after a cross by Orrock.
YM continued to press and almost profited from the spell of pressure, Blackadder slipping Wilson in one on one but Stewart did well to close and block with his leg. Striker Wilson was left red faced minutes later when he diverted a Westcarr cross wide from six yards out.
Stewart in the Kirrie goal was busy once again when he palmed away a rising Elder shot destined for the top corner. Against the run of play Kirrie took the lead before the break, Robbie George floating a free kick into the box and defender Orrock handling for Kirkcaldy. James Russell dispatched the awarded penalty into the right side of the net meaning Kirrie went in 1-0 up at the break.
Kirkcaldy started the half the better of the two; this was evident when Westcarr slid a cross across the goalmouth to Elder who had acres of space, but with the goal at his mercy he somehow managed to blast the ball out of the ground. Again good goalkeeping from Stewart minutes later, first blocking from the persitstant Wilson then clutching George’s sliced clearance.
Thistle almost got an undeserved second when J. Russell gathered an S. Russell header via Davie Miller, and rounded the keeper only to see his goal-bound effort blocked on the line by O’Neill.
Kirkcaldy equalised midway inside the half; after losing the ball in their own half Kirrie were made to pay, the influential Blackadder driving from 20 yards, but his shot was spilled by Stewart and the ever alert Wilson was quickest to react, tapping home.
Wilson scored another in quick succession, being played through by Forbes to toe poke home past the goalkeeper. On a rare journey up field Thistle almost drew level, however J.Russell’s free kick from 25 yards was pushed out by Gay in goals.
YM top scorer Wilson grabbed his 16th of the season and hat trick goal on 78 minutes, intercepting a poor touch by goalkeeper Stewart, after the keeper was sold short by a back pass, then walking the ball into the empty net.
Another disappointing result for Thistle who must start to pick up vital points in the fight against relegation.
