Winger Danny Denholm says Forfar Athletic need to sort out their defending following their 2-1 loss at Ayr United.

Andy Ryan’s goal was his third in four games for his new team but poor defensive work cost the Loons as the Honest Men claimed victory on Saturday evening.

And Denholm believes that with the addition of Ryan and Steven Craig helping one end of the park, the team needs to work on shoring up the other end of the field.

He said: “They were horrible conditions but that affects both sides. We started okay and had a couple of chances, we missed quite a good one but from there they just dominated the first half.

“We managed to bounce back and you thought maybe we’ll get the three points here but it never happened for us.

“But there are some good signs there, there are some positives there for us. Andy Ryan and Tam O’Brien looked very good and Andy took his goal well. There are some signs there but on the whole, it’s not good enough again.

”Andy’s come in and he looks great, he works ever so hard. He misses a few chances but he scores as well - he makes his own chances a lot because he works so hard. He’s been a breath of fresh air, he’s just what we needed as a striker who gets in behind.”

Danny has been on the bench in recent weeks but said he can only work hard to give manager Gary Bollan reason to restore him to the team.

He continued: “We need to tighten up at the back now.

“I feel myself obviously that I should be playing but I’m not, so I’ll keep working hard in training. It’s one of those situations where you just have to be positive. I’ll keep doing my best.

“The next two weeks will be vital for us.”
