A RECORD 1,000 runners lined up at Camperdown Park on Sunday for the Dundee Marathon and Half Marathon, including a superb turnout of no less than 15 Forfar Road Runners.
In the full marathon event, which followed the circular green route around Dundee, Forfar’s Craig Stewart had an excellent run to finish second overall behind Dundee Hawkhill’s Roger Van Gompel.
Despite the less than ideal conditions, with warm sunshine combining with a headwind and an undulating course, ultra specialist Craig managed to take around seven minutes off his previous personal best, finishing in a time of three hours, four minutes and 30 seconds.
In the half marathon, which followed a point-to-point route from Camperdown to Broughty Ferry, Grant Ramsay led the men home in one hour, 18 minutes and 15 seconds, just over 30 seconds in front of second placed Ronald Gauld.
In the women’s race Jillian Gordon placed first in a time of 1.24.34, followed by Charlotte Firth in 1.25.19 and Fife AC’s Morgan Windram-Geddes (1.26.54).
Top placed Forfar RR was reigning club champion Tracy Morgan, who placed an impressive seventh in women’s race, in a time of 1.33.41.
Next back was Rory Fairburn in 1.35.57, followed by Jack Davies who took nearly two minutes off his PB to finish in 1.39.03.
Other Forfar Road Runners finishers were Dan Gates (1.45.15), Mike Frodsham (1.46.14), Hugh Mackenzie (1.51.11 - PB), Dawn McFarlane (1.57.04), Sandra Pattie (1.58.32), Karen Fletcher (2.05.03), Angie Mackenzie (2.07.23), Sandra Mearns (2.11.04), Sam Connelly (2.14.43), Susan Edwards (2.17.26), and Diane Oldershaw (2.21.15).
