Forfar Farmington 2, Spartans 2
Farmington kicked off playing into a strong wind howling down the length of Station Park which would play a major part in the match.
The game started at a furious pace with both sides attempting to secure an early foothold. Abbi Grant tried to beat Rachel Harrison from distance after she had picked up a long clearance but the wind allowed the Spartans ‘keeper to retreat and make a comfortable save.
Spartans set about using the wind and took the lead when a punt up field saw Ewens convert despite the efforts of McDonald and Welton.
The play continued to go Spartans way and Kirsty McLaughlin’s shot from the edge of the box was well parried by Welton.
Farmington then had a let off in the 20th minute when Jenkins saw Welton tip a shot over. Hamilton blazed wide soon after as Farmington found themselves under pressure.
A promising Farmington attack then turned into a chance for Spartans as Ewens turned Collier and fired low past Welton.
Playing with the wind in the second half, Farmington were able to finally attack the Spartans goal, and pulled a goal back when Julia Scott cracked home a 25 yard free kick.
The equaliser followed from another set piece. Nicola Davidsons free kick was met by the head of “on fire” striker Caroline Heron who thundered the ball past Harrison.
