Lochside FC Under 17s beat Fairmuir Under 17s 2-1 after extra-time to win the Henry Dolan Cup at Dundee North End’s ground in what was a fantastic occasion.
The boys were up against a team they had never beaten before and had won three previous league cup finals.
The first half was an even encounter but Lochside still saw themselves go in at half-time a goal down.
The team came out of the traps in the second half and were enjoying the vast majority of the play but it was not until the last minute of normal time before they grabbed the equaliser.
The ball bounced about the penalty area before Lochside striker Andy Mongomery turned and rifled in a shot that Fairmuir’s keeper could only stand and watch. Extra-time came and within five minutes of the restart Lochside pulled ahead.
Out of nowhere Craig Menmuir controlled the ball on his chest before letting fly a left foot volley straight into the top corner leaving the opposition keeper with no chance.
The second half of extra time was a nervy affair but the fitness of Lochside’s players showed as Fairmuir failed to really pose a threat.
As the final whistle blew the emotions were on display for all to see as the boys thoroughly deserved to lift the cup.
The boys would like to thank the supporters who attended the game for being loud, colourful and keeping them driving on.
It was a great day for Lochside FC and for the local game.
