KIRRIE Thistle are preparing for the DJ Laing League Cup Final which takes place this Friday night (April 19).

Thistle will be playing Lochee United at Laing Park, Carnoustie - the home of Carnoustie Panmure - with kick-off at 6.45 p.m.

East Region North League side Kirrie are hoping to be giant killers when they face Lochee, who are currently two leagues above them in the Superleague.

Their most recent meeting was in the East of Scotland Cup with Lochee winning 5-3.

The DJ Laing Cup Final was due to be played earlier this season but due to the weather it was postponed to this Friday.

Manager Wilson Coupar will be hoping to win Kirrie’s first trophy for a few years, and almost has a full squad to pick from. Goalkeeper Mark Stewart is the only injury worry.

Kirrie’s preparation for the final was playing out a 2-2 draw at home to Downfield. This league fixture was a closely fought encounter, with Thistle twice coming from behind. Ross Lunan and Shaun Taylor were Thistle’s scorers.
