The Results Gym fight team made a memorable trip to the WAKO Scottish kickboxing championships held at Glasgow’s impressive On-X Linwood sports centre last month, where brothers Bradley and Brandon Hanmore became the 2014 WAKO Scottish kickboxing champions.
Bradley and Brandon were both outstanding, blowing away the competition in both points and continuous to face each other in both finals, with one win each.
They have met each other in the finals of the last two events they have attended.
George Bertie, head coach said: “I’m so proud of the team. This time last year we only had one silver medal podium finish and today one year later we came back with two Scottish champions and four silver medals. That is a fantastic result and shows that all the hard work is paying off.”
Andrew Short of the club has had a fantastic month; he earned his Black Belt, become British WUMA champion, IAKSA Edinburgh Open champion, fought at the Irish Open and was WAKO Scottish runner up. He is getting some great experience and is improving at a rapid pace.
Marta Masowa took silver and bronze places in her sections. She was up against the very talented and experienced world champion Karen McGregor in the final of her light contact section.
Marta started off well and got an early lead, but Karen stayed composed and settled into the fight, putting the pressure on Marta.
George continued: “This was a great experience for Marta as she was against one of the best fighters in the world at that weight.”
On the day Brandon and Bradley Hanmore won gold and silver. Andrew Short won silver and Marta Masowa won silver in the ladies’ section.
