QUEEN of the South and Rangers are Second and Third Division champions respectively with Angus clubs featuring in both the title winning games, writes Sarah McLean.

The Dumfries side took Second Division honours last Tuesday night following their 6-0 thrashing of Brechin City at Station Park.

Rangers had a little while to wait after their 0-0 draw against Montrose early on Saturday but a Queen’s Park defeat to Elgin later in the afternoon was enough to see the Ibrox side take the title.

Brechin City had only a few days before facing the champions again and they still found themselves on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline. With Queen of the South 2-0 up on the 73rd minute Alan Trouten pulled back a goal with a penalty two minutes later.

Forfar Athletic have failed to record a win against Arbroath this season as they lost 4-2 in their final league game against the Gayfield side for 2012/13.

A goal from Danny Denholm after Steven Doris’ early opener saw the teams level at half-time. Chris Templeman put the Loons into the lead 10 minutes into the second half, but a further three goals from Colin Hamilton, Michael Travis and Paul Sheerin meant the three points travelled back to Arbroath.

Montrose did well against the Division Three champions and had the majority of good chances with a Boyle goal disallowed in the second half. The draw was enough to see them stay in the third place spot.

It’s another busy week this week with midweek games for three of the Angus teams.

On Tuesday night Brechin hosted East Fife while Forfar Athletic travelled to Cliftonhill to face Albion Rovers as we went to press.

Tonight (Wednesday), Arbroath will welcome Stenhousemuir to Gayfield. On Saturday, they are at home again against Albion Rovers, Forfar welcome East Fife to Station Park and Brechin have a long away day to Stranraer.

In the Third Division Montrose host Stirling Albion with hopes of staying in the top three.
